Involuntary drug treatment\tin\tMexico.\tMedical\tAnthropology<\/h3>

El tratamiento de drogas involuntario es una pr\u00e1ctica com\u00fan a pesar de no\nser efectivo. En M\u00e9xico no hay suficientes programas residenciales profesionales\npara el tratamiento por consumo de drogas y, ya sea tanto voluntario\ncomo involuntario, lo proveen centros no-profesionales que no est\u00e1n\nbasados en la evidencia. Analizamos las experiencias de las personas que se\ninyectan drogas (PID) que fueron llevadas involuntariamente a centros de\ntratamiento bajo un operativo policiaco en Tijuana. La salud, el bienestar,\nlos derechos humanos, la dignidad y la seguridad de las PID deben ser\nelementos centrales de las pol\u00edticas de drogas internacionales y de los\nsistemas universales de salud.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Mexico northern border has high levels of heroin use. For more than 10 years, the country has implemented several harm reduction interventions to reduce the risks associated with drug use. A new challenge for the Mexican health system: hepatitis C in people who inject drugs<\/h3>

Injecting-drug use is present in 179 of 206 countries worldwide, with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence of 17.8% and 52.3%, respectively, among the 15.6 million people who inject drugs (PWIDs) (Degenhardt et al., 2017; Platt et al., 2016). En la frontera norte de M\u00e9xico hay niveles altos de consumo de hero\u00edna. Los esfuerzos para la identificaci\u00f3n de nuevos casos de VIH, VHC y otras ITS, mediante la aplicaci\u00f3n de pruebas r\u00e1pidas, se centra en personas que se inyectan drogas, sin considerar que el consumo de alcohol y otras drogas de abuso inhiben la toma de decisiones incrementando el riesgo de contagio de ITS durante pr\u00e1cticas sexuales de riesgo. Fentanyl is used in Mexico's northern border: current challenges for drug health policies<\/h3>

Results from a recent study among 750 heroin users in three Mexico's northern border cities revealed an increase in white powder availability (also known as China white) and preference for this product among heroin users, as well as a general perception of increased overdose cases among this population. Here, we questioned whether those findings reflect an increased presence of heroin laced with fentanyl, which is associated with greater risks of overdose but that, until now, has not been described in Mexico.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
